Who can apply for Hungarian simplified naturalization
The simplified procedure is open to people with Hungarian ancestors in a direct line and to some spouses of Hungarian citizens. Here are the two routes, the conditions that apply to everyone, and a short list to check yourself before you start collecting documents.
Questions and answers
Who can apply by descent?
You or your direct ancestor (parent, grandparent, great-grandparent, with no limit on generations) were Hungarian citizens, or you can substantiate Hungarian descent.
Can I apply through marriage?
Yes, if you have been married to a Hungarian citizen for at least 10 years, or for at least 5 years and you have a child together.
Do uncles, aunts or cousins give a right to apply?
Not on their own. The relationship must run in a direct ascending line, and relatives outside it count only if they lead you to an ancestor in that line.
